wales retreat 2018 – day 4

Today I want to show you the project I have been working on during the knitting retreat week. Here you see the finished yoke of a top-down jumper I am making. It was inspired by a painting by ‘my girl’ and incidentally this will also become her jumper when finished.

I am using five shades of  Lamana Yarn Milano, a beautiful fingering weight yarn of 90% Wool and 10% Cashmere. It is super soft and I am working with 2.5mm needles.

Eva, one of our super amazing and speedy knitters, liked this idea so much, that she started her own yoke jumper immediately after she finished her official workshop project…

…even her colours are very similar. Great minds…and all that!

Yesterday we spent the day visiting Trefriw Woollen Mill and the lovely town of Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia National Park.

Everyone was super interested during the guided tour of the spinning and weaving mill. It was like stepping back in time as things had not changed much since it was first opened in 1859. It was amazing to see all the wonderful old machinery in action, from washing and carding, to spinning, dyeing and then weaving. This family run business manufactures traditional Welsh “tapestry” bedspreads, smaller Welsh “tapestry” patterns by the metre, tweeds and travelling rugs from the raw wool using machines which are over 50 years old and powered by a vintage water turbine.

Plenty of purchases where made and some of our Ladies looked very fetching in their newly acquired smart wear.

Hello friends, I hope this finds you well!

It is high time that I told you about our annual knitting retreat. As in years past I am again organising the retreat with my dear friend Claudia ( and this year we are going back to Wales. This is really great for me as it is virtually on my doorstep and I can make sure that everything runs smoothly. Our theme this year is “Bohus Stikkning” and we will cover everything from History and Tradition to Design and Technique.

Our venue is the beautiful Chainbridge Hotel in Llangollen where we will be looked after to perfection and made to feel right at home.

There will be fun and laughter, delicious food, visits to a beautiful garden and to discover new yarn, lashings of divine yarn and most importantly lots of new friends in the making.

If you fancy being part of our knitting adventure come and join us from Monday 7th May to Sunday 13th May 2018, but be quick as places are going fast. All details can be found here, or drop me a note ( with any questions you may have.

I really hope to say Croeso i Cymru to you soon.
