Hello friends and fellow crafters!

Today I am super thrilled and excited to be sharing the news of a brand new crochet book with you. A book packed full of beautiful projects, all designed by a fellow creative soul and dear friend Marianne of the all inspiring blog marrose-ccc.

Colorful Crochet is packed full of bright and cheerful projects to wear and for the home. The designs totally reflect Marianne’s style and eye for colour, and each project gives at least two ideas for application of technique used. Visually stimulating photos and ample designer tips and tricks shared, make for many hours of fun reading and making.

There is only one problem…which project to choose and make first!!

I decided and then changed my mind…then decided again and changed my mind…again!! Finally I settled on making the Striped Baby Blanket “Ingrid”. Something spoke to me looking at the beautiful stitch Marianne had used for the sample in the book, and as I had been wanting to make a blanket in hues of blue for a while it was the perfect time to set to it.

In the book Marianne uses DMC Just Cotton Medium and a hook size 6.5mm, but I prefer to work with slightly less thick yarn and settled for Sirdar Colourwheel in shade 0204 and hook size 4.5mm. Yarn and hook at the ready I couldn’t wait to get started and I am totally loving the way this has turned out. You could say that I was loving every stitch of it!

The patterns in the book are very clear and easy to understand with some projects having charted as well as written instructions, and there are ample of designer hints giving that little bit of extra information on sizing or how to best attach motifs together. With more than 20 projects in the book there is something for everyone and all abilities, and I dare you not wanting to make every single item.

As you can see, I am totally smitten and want to congratulate Marianne and Tuva Publishing for getting together and giving us this true gem of a book. And just when you think it can’t get any better than that…

Not only did dear Marianne ask me to be part of a blog tour of amazing talented fellow bloggers, she also gave me a copy of the book to give away to you my fellow readers and friends. How do you like that for a surprise on a sunny Sunday?!?

vintage hexie blanket

Hello friends! It’s been a fair long while since my last post and for that I am sorry. It has been a bit of a struggle here as I have been battling with a rather nasty viral infection that doesn’t want to go away. Today is the first day in a long while that I feel well enough to sit in front of the computer and I want to take this opportunity to say hello to all of you.

I also want to introduce you to my latest collaboration design, a vintage inspired baby blanket. This is a collaboration between myself and the lovely Jeni of Fyberspates Yarns. I am sure many of you have worked with some of Jeni’s gorgeous yarns before, this however is a brand new yarn, produced together with Rachel Coopey of Coop Knits. Socks Yeah is a fabulous new yarn in ten delicious colours designed by Rachel. Hard wearing and machine washable at 30 degrees, 75% Superwash Merino/25% Nylon, this yarn is perfect for baby blankets as it is supersoft and has a very high cuddle factor.

As my brief was to come up with a design inspired by vintage colours I firstly set about researching various Pinterest sites. This was followed by trying a multitude of different crochet stitch patterns which I sent on to Jeni for her to choose her favourite. I am pleased to say we both agreed that small hexagon’s were the the most perfect way to show off the yarn and colours, giving the blanket a true vintage feel.

the story of a blanket – the big ta-dah

TaDa Collage 1

Well, here it is!! The big reveal moment of my Vintage Blanket has finally arrived. To say that I am a little bit in love is a complete understatement of the fact that I absolutely love the blanket and will find it very hard to part with.

I have truly enjoyed every step of the journey and we have become firm friends during the numerous hours we spent together. Many happy thoughts have been worked into every loop I crochet and I think the final result does not disappoint. What do you think? Do you like her, and would you like to make one for yourself?

Hurrah hurrah…you can!!!  I will post the pattern, including yarn amounts and how-to’s next Friday here on the blog. So make sure you are a subscriber and watch this space.

Until then go and have a look at all the delicious colours available in this beautiful yarn here, and start planning your colours!

Happy times – Enjoy!

the story of a blanket – part 2

Blanket Update Collage 1

During the last few days my little mountains of squares grew and grew, and everyday the assembly line has become a little longer. It has been such a joy to work with this yarn, so much so that in my head I have already lined up a few more projects.

Yesterday I decided to have a little rest from making squares, I thought it would be nice to give each one of them a final round of uplifting colour and then I started to lay them out randomly. Now, anyone who has ever made a blanket using different coloured squares knows how difficult it is to be really random when laying out the colours. A little while ago, when looking around in the cyberworld for some ideas, I came across a most useful link. A link so useful that it has totally revolutionised my ability to become utterly random with the layout of my blanket squares. Would you all like to be enlightened…I bet you would!! So here it is, the granny square generator!

For this blanket I put in number of squares per row followed by number of total rows. Then I added the different colours, pressed the magic button called Generate…and presto I had my random layout!

Here it is:

Isn’t it fantastic! Well I think so anyway, and here, at just about the halfway point, is my Vintage Blanket…

Blanket Update Collage 2

I have got a few more squares made already and the assembly line is growing again. I am hopeful that the blanket will be finished this time next week for it’s very own big Tadah moment. Hopefully our beautiful autumnal sunshine weather of late will hold long enough so that I can sit on my bench with a completed blanket keeping me warm.

So there you have it, the story so far.

Have a lovely colourfully happy weekend, I am off to make more squares.
