Stitches – Week 10 – Wrapped Smocking Stitch

Following on from last week’s fancy stitch, this week try your hand at wrapped smocking stitch. Knit a sample and add to your collection.

Worked over a multiple of 8sts plus 2

Smocking = Insert right needle from front to back between the sixth & seventh stitches on your left needle. Draw up a loop and place on left needle. K2tog (the loop together with next stitch on left needle), k1, p2, k2.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p2, k2; rep. from * to end.

Row 2: *P2, k2; rep. from * to last 2sts, p2

Row 3: as row 1

Row 4: *P2, work smocking; rep. from * to last 2sts, p2.

Row 5: as row 1

Row 6: as row 2

Row 7: as row 1

Row 8: P2, k2, *p2, work smocking; rep. from * to last 6sts, p2, k2, p2.

Repeat rows 1 – 8 for pattern.
