Stitches – a free directory

As winter continues going from strength to strength here in North Wales with snow falling as I write this, more forecast for the next few days and no end in sight for current total lockdown, what better than to find refuge in our crafts, in my case knitting.

For a while I have been thinking of publishing a simple stitch directory here on my blog and starting today I will be knitting a sample and writing up the pattern each week to go online here most Fridays. I know there are many comprehensive books covering this topic, most of them thick heavy books covering hundreds of stitches, often costly and you might not necessarily need all the patterns covered.

My stitches will cover simple knitting, relaxing and full of pleasure. There is a NEW Category link on the right side menu where all stitches will be collated and easy to find and I might throw in the odd technique as well. Please feel free to leave a comment if there is anything specific you like me to cover.

Kicking this new feature off, this week there are two stitches for you to try:

Purl Dot Stitch (worked over a multiple of 4sts plus 3sts)

Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k3; rep. from * to last 2sts, p1, k1

Rows 2 & 4: Purl

Row 3: *K3, p1; rep. from * to last 3sts, k3

Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.

Mistake Rib Stitch (worked over a multiple of 2sts plus 1st)

Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; rep. from * to end

Row 2: P1, *keeping yarn in front of work sl1 purl-wise, p1; rep. from * to end

Repeat these 2 rows for pattern.

I hope you will enjoy this new feature and have fun trying out new stitches. You could assemble all your knitted sample squares into a blanket at the end of it…that would be fun!

Stay safe and take care,

Heike xx
