Gwedolen Shawl gp1

Previously only available as part of a book, and after many request from all of you lovely people, I have decided to make the Gwendolen shawl available as a single pattern and you can now find it on the top menu in the single pattern section.

Keeping the chill off during the first days of spring, this fully reversible shawl uses the short row technique to give a crescent like shape and is presented in two versions. The first (in top photo),using Fyberspates Vivacious, a fingering weight yarn for a light and lofty drape. The second version is knitted using Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend, a DK yarn for a warmer hug.

You can of course substitute the yarn used in the pattern with anything that takes your fancy or you already have in your stash. I have made a couple of versions using a single colour only, this gives an altogether different look again.

The beauty of shawl knitting is that the possibilities are endless, and the crescent shape of this design lends itself to playing around with colour and yarn to create ever changing looks and having a lot of fun on the way.

If you have never done any short row shaping, this is the perfect item to have a go. Everything is explained in full detail, making it easy to understand, there really is no need to be scared.

Go ahead and cheer yourself up by making something beautiful and very versatile, trying out a new technique and having a lot of fun on the way. You can download the pattern here, and when you are finished please e-mail me with a photo of your version. I would love to see all different looks of the same design – such fun!

Enjoy! x
