celebrations and a free pattern

I received the news that I had been chosen to become one of Nurturing Fibres Brand Representatives whilst on holiday in Guatemala and as you can imagine, I have been giddy with joy and excitement ever since.

On my return from holiday I found my first Yarn parcel waiting for me, carefully chosen and wrapped by Carle, it had come all the way from South Africa.

Cheering myself up coming home to gloomy weather and in the midst of unpacking suitcases I couldn’t wait to delve into my parcel and was greeted by a ray of exploding colour. I felt like a child in a sweet shop and found it almost impossible to restrain myself from getting out my hook immediately. Yesterday I couldn’t wait any longer and thinking of the many inspirational impressions from my holiday, I spent the day hooking away.

This was the result

The Maya Cross Square – inspired by my visit to Quirigua in the Peten Region of Guatemala and the many Mayan Stone carvings found there.

At this point your work will be a bit uneven and wobbly at the edges so it is important to block in order to achieve beautifully shaped squares. I use a granny block station that I purchased in The Netherlands HERE , but you can use any other method that you might prefer.

I will write about my holiday another day and share some of the many photos I took with you. For now I hope you will enjoy trying out this new square and celebrate my wonderful news with me.

Happy hooking!

esprit de fleur

Hello friends! How have you been, well I hope.

The past few days I have noticed that there is a distinct feeling of autumn in the air! The heather is in full bloom on top of my mountains, straw bales are appearing, and in some cases towering like ‘Great walls of China’, the first leaves are falling and evenings are drawing in earlier. There are still some signs of summer to see in the garden and these past few days the weather has been unusually warm. I was able to enjoy a glass of sparkly sitting outside admiring my view a couple of evenings ago – how wonderful.

As I am looking forward to a week away with my girl friends, I wanted to leave you with a little something to do whilst I am gone. How about my new square design reminding us of faded summer glory. I am calling it “Esprit de Fleur”.

It starts with yarn in faded vintage colours, I used Scheepjes Stone Washed DK

Hope you like it!

trees…etcetera

dear diary,

This week saw the return of winter with arctic temperatures at night, frosty mornings, snow blizzards and icy winds from Siberia. No signs of spring left apart from bright blue skies and sunshine amidst wintry showers.

Frost

I took this opportunity to take some photos of trees. I have always loved trees. In summer to lie under them looking up into their amazing canopy and dreaming of places far away, in winter I love their starkness against blue skies and winter sunshine.

Tree 4

Tree 5

Tree 6

Whilst on this photo shoot with trees I also found plenty of other inspiration which I applied to sample knitting when I was back in the warmth of my studio later.

Trunk Inspiration

Tyre Inspiration

As you can see, even during this rather stark and colourless time of year one can find plenty of inspiration. Always walk around with eyes wide open and having a camera with you helps of course.

I have also been busy making more squares for ‘my girls’ blanket. I leave you with this weeks fruit of crochetnesses…
