Sadly all too quickly the last day of our retreat week had arrived. We were all wondering where the last 5 days had gone and there was already talk and anticipation about next year.

Last minute speedy knitting was done as everyone got themselves ready for show and tell after dinner.

Certificates and Medals where handed out to everyone who took part and for one last time everyone retreated to the cosy corner for some relaxing time with their yarn and needles…

…and all too soon it was time for me to wave good bye to everyone.

On another glorious morning in this beautiful corner of North Wales we hugged and hugged, some tears were shed and promises of returning next year made.

It has been a fabulous week of friendship and laughter, good food and drink, fabulous weather every day and KNITTING of course!

The next retreat will take place from 25th September to 2nd October 2019 at the Chainbridge Hotel in Llangollen (more information will follow).

Hope to see you there.

XO.

Today I want to show you the project I have been working on during the knitting retreat week. Here you see the finished yoke of a top-down jumper I am making. It was inspired by a painting by ‘my girl’ and incidentally this will also become her jumper when finished.

I am using five shades of  Lamana Yarn Milano, a beautiful fingering weight yarn of 90% Wool and 10% Cashmere. It is super soft and I am working with 2.5mm needles.

Eva, one of our super amazing and speedy knitters, liked this idea so much, that she started her own yoke jumper immediately after she finished her official workshop project…

…even her colours are very similar. Great minds…and all that!

Yesterday we spent the day visiting Trefriw Woollen Mill and the lovely town of Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia National Park.

Everyone was super interested during the guided tour of the spinning and weaving mill. It was like stepping back in time as things had not changed much since it was first opened in 1859. It was amazing to see all the wonderful old machinery in action, from washing and carding, to spinning, dyeing and then weaving. This family run business manufactures traditional Welsh “tapestry” bedspreads, smaller Welsh “tapestry” patterns by the metre, tweeds and travelling rugs from the raw wool using machines which are over 50 years old and powered by a vintage water turbine.

Plenty of purchases where made and some of our Ladies looked very fetching in their newly acquired smart wear.

Day 2 started with joy of finished samples and eagerness to get started on the project of the week, a pair mittens designed by Claudia.

Soon everyone was busy again with needles clicking and after a very hush day yesterday, today the room was filled with chatter and laughter.

A big surprise was waiting for our lovely guests when they returned after lunch, as Emma from The little grey Sheep and Sian from Courtyard Books had arrived with lots of books and yarn.

After the initial squeals of joy had subsided, shopping began in earnest and arms full of yarn will be filling suitcases on return flights home no doubt.

Personal shopping attention was given and then Emma gave the group a fabulous talk on how the farm she and her  husband bought and started with just 7 sheep has grown into this business and gorgeous yarn that we know today.
