It is with enormous pride that today I can introduce a brand new shawl design

Fireball!

I am so very fortunate to be working with many talented professionals in my world of knitting and crochet, as well as meeting a host of new people every time I teach a new workshop either here in the UK, in Germany or during one of the fabulous knitting retreats I have the pleasure in organising. However, once in a while some of us are extremely lucky to meet an extra special person, you know the sort of person I am talking about, the one that you connect with after just a few minutes and feel you have known all your life. The one that touches your heart in that special place and you feel a kindred spirit with.

For me that person is Claudia. We met, we chatted and the rest, as they say, is history! Claudia and I have the relationship were we don’t have to say a lot or explain a lot as most of the time the other knows exactly how..what..when..where! We compliment each other in every possible way: She has a yarn shop…very handy for me and all the designs that whirl around in my head. She is a magician in the dyeing kitchen…very handy for me as she will whizz something new up for me whenever I have one of my special requests. She organises one of the best Wool Festivals in Europe…very handy for me as I get invited to teach there every year.

You see what I mean! and because this is such a great partnership we decided about a year ago to make it official and started WoolyLoops  together. WoolyLoops means that we can co-produce our knitting retreats (always sold out before they go live), publish books together (our Little book of Sox almost sold out now) and work on individual designs together. At the same time we can keep our individual businesses separate and work on joint ventures with others. It’s truly perfect!

With this design we have taken it a step further. An acquaintance of Claudia has dyed this special limited edition colourway for us. A gradient yarn which is dyed using a special technique with long slow subtle colour changes, 4 threads – 500m per ball. We called it Fireball, and I have designed a special shawl of the same name.

The yarn and pattern are available via Claudia’s website – www.wollsin.de – as a kit and you can specify if you need this pattern in either English or German. Pre-order starts today with shipment from 8. November, but you better be quick as it is flying off the shelves and when its gone…it will be gone.

The shawl starts from the lace up and uses short rows to shape it into a crescent style accessory which is easy to wear in a range of different ways.

Fireball is a glorious colour explosion making even the gloomiest of winter days into a happier occasion!

Hello friends, how have you been? I am super excited as I can finally share the details of our latest crochet along with you.

I proudly present…

The Turkish Delight Bolster Cushion

#madewithloops.co.uk #wollsinn.de #crochet alongLast summer I was introduced to the beautiful Vinnis Colours Nikkim, a 100% cotton yarn, hand dyed and balled by women from an economically deprived rural area of South Africa. Every sale of this yarn helps the women and their communities…I was immediately smitten. Lots of ideas came to my mind and when I saw the stunning colour palette I was blown away – The idea of a crochet along was born. Together with my partner in crime, Claudia (www.wollsinn.de), we worked on the idea and today we can finally reveal what we have been itching to show you.

Crochet Along Collage

Designed by me the bolster cushion was inspired by my love of design, architecture and colours found in North Africa and the Middle East. Having extensively travelled in those countries, taking endless photos, my designs are often influenced by impressions gathered. This design shows off these influences by incorporating texture and colour in equal measure.

Bolsters are usually firm for back or arm support or for decorative applications and have been in use since the 12th century. They are not a standard size or shape and commonly have a button or zip closure. A foam insert is used for additional support. Also referred to as a cushion, in western countries, a bolster is usually placed at the head of one’s bed and functions as head or lower back support, or as an arm support on furniture with high rigid sides.

This crochet along gives you an opportunity to own a beautiful and useful homeware item inspired by the colours and designs of North Africa and the Middle East. Easily achievable by even the busiest among us, it is divided into four parts:

  • Part 1: Strips 1 & 2 – Part 2: Strips 3 & 4 – Part 3: Middle Strip and Ends – Part 4: Finishing and Tassels
  • Starting at the beginning of May, by the time summer comes you will be able to rest your head on your beautiful handmade item.
  • Learn new techniques and become more accomplished at crochet – choose bold and vibrant colours or subtler shades, there is a colour pack to suit all tastes and home deco style.

The packs will be available from tomorrow, 1 April 2016 via the Wollsinn website HERE  – if you have any questions please e-mail me at heike.gittins@gmail.com and I will do my best to answer speedily.

After a long wait it’s finally here!!

A little book of Sox has been published and is now available in both German and English.

This book is another co-production between two very good creative friends. For some time now Claudia (wollsinn.de) and I have been working on many fun and fabulous yarny projects together. Our knitting retreats are known by many to be well organised weeks of much fun and yarn shenanigans. Where I am the brains behind the designs, she is the magician in the dyeing kitchen and together that is an awesome combination. Working with Claudia is always an adventure and much fun is had on the way. This book is no exception!

Sock knitting has been a passion of ours for years! There is nothing more lovely for your feet than a beautifully soft and cosy hand-knitted pair of socks. They lend themselves to trying out new yarns and /or new patterns, are an easy project to carry around with you and they make great gifts.

The inspiration for these designs originated from my love of hiking in fresh mountain air. Living near the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, UK, I have ample opportunity to enjoy fresh mountain air and breath-taking views throughout the seasons. Mountaineering calls for good walking boots, which in turn call for comfy breathable socks. What better comfort and warmth than a pair of hand-knitted socks.

From a chat between friends over a cup of tea, the idea was planted in our heads to not only showcase the beautiful Arwetta Classic Yarn and some of Wollsinn’s own hand-painted sock yarns, but also to present designs that are versatile and fun to knit.

We are proud to present to you our first six patterns within these pages and hope you will enjoy knitting and wearing our creations.

The printed book is available in German from www.wollsinn.de, where you can also find the Arwetta Yarn in many beautiful colours. The English version is available as an e-Book and can be purchased via my shop HERE. Please spread the word – thank you!

Enjoy and have fun!
