Last Friday was a very special day for ‘my man’ and myself, as on this day (6 June) 30 years ago we met when he was stationed in Germany with the British Armed Forces. As I had been away on business the weekend before, I hadn’t planned anything special and thought we could just have a lovely meal and some bubbly to celebrate.

But to my great surprise ‘my man’ had organised an overnight stay in a very special place, and on Friday morning he whisked me off to Portmeirion.

Portmeirion was build by architect Clough Williams-Ellis to show how a beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it. He bought the site in 1925 and spent over 50 years developing it into the stunning place it is today.

The village is situated on its own private peninsula overlooking Traeth Beach estuary, and is surrounded by 70 acres of subtropical forest gardens. This is a  magical environment of lakes, temples and gazebos, with paths that wind themselves past Italian style cottages, a pantheon, watchtower and much more, down to the rocky shoreline.

There stands the beautiful Portmeirion Hotel where we spent a wonderful evening munching our way through the most delicious dinner, drinking Champagne whilst looking out to sea.

Clough Williams-Ellis was a man with great vision. Portmeirion gave him much pleasure during his life and is today giving much pleasure to it’s many visitors. His motto was “Cherish the Past, Adorn the Present, Construct for the Future”, a motto witch sits well with this beautiful, somewhat mystical place, where you feel you have stepped back in time and leave feeling tranquil and refreshed.

We have booked our next weekend stay already!

Enjoy! X.

Finally…the sun is out and the sky is blue!!!

It has taken a long time here in North Wales to send Winter on it’s way, waving good bye to rain, wind and more rain, but we have finally said Hello to Spring. Over the last few days everything has suddenly sprung back to life, and has put a happy skip into our steps.

Waking up to this view on a sunny day can’t be beaten, and driving towards my pretty town bathing in early morning sunshine makes me appreciate what a beautiful place I live in.

Spring’s arrival is perfectly timed for the start of the holidays…

…holidays filled with long lazy mornings and putting our feet up doing not very much…
