dear diary,

Jack Frost

Winter has arrived in North Wales, and Jack Frost has been busy leaving a sparkly glowy halo all over our beautiful Welsh countryside.

It is time to wrap up warm, keeping snug and toasty when out and about. Hands suffer especially when out in the cold, but sometimes gloves are too much, as you need your fingers and thumbs free to grip things. Fingerless mittens are the perfect accessory for just those times.

Introducing brenhines eira, or snow queen for you non-welsh speaking folk…

Warm hands 2

…these mittens are quickly made, achievable in just one evening, and ready to wear the next day. Super soft Angora Merino snow drifts, topped with a beautiful Alpaca crown, gives your hands the instant regal look they deserve.

Not much yarn is needed, and any aran yarn of your choosing will do. For mine I used one hank of Araucania Angora Merino, a gift from a friend, and for the crown edging some amazingly soft Lamana Cusi was the perfect companion.
